Angela Hooks

Spiritual writing, the arts, trauma-informed, inner work, contemplative practices, group spiritual direction

Angela is an avid diary-keeper who likes literature and spirituality. She delights in the Holy foolishness of grace, where laughter meets longing and mystery dances with the mundane. With a doctorate in English literature, a master’s in creative writing and a master’s in divinity, she crafts a colorful spirituality from artistic, Ignatian, African American, and Christian mystical traditions. She has long taught diary writing as a spiritual practice.

Her clients tend to be creatives, skeptics, writers, professors, seminary students; those new to the faith, returning to the faith, or those seeking community after walking away from the church. They are often seeking contemplative practices, a deeper spiritual formation, or wrestling with "darkness." They also include those who have unspeakable joy and want to ascend higher!

"Thank you for a beautiful session yesterday. I appreciate how you hold space for me and encourage me with truth and humor. I have paused a few times yesterday and today. It feels like a Holy Rebellion- and I love it!" --CC

"Meeting with Angela for spiritual direction has felt like “divine couples counseling”. Our sessions of the past year have become a sacred space where I reconnect with God's movement in my life in deeper, more intimate ways. Her thoughtful questions and gentle presence have helped me listen for God’s voice in seasons when it’s felt hardest to hear. I’m so grateful for her guidance on this journey." - Carmelle
